Causes of ACL injury

Ligaments are robust bands of tissue that connect one bone to a different. The ACL, one amongst 2 ligaments that cross within the middle of the knee, connects your thighbone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia) and helps stabilize your knee joint.

Most ACL injuries happen throughout sports and fitness activities. The ligament might tear once you abate suddenly to alter direction or pivot together with your foot firmly planted, twisting or overextending your knee.

Landing awkwardly from a jump may also injure your ACL, as will falls throughout downhill skiing. A soccer tackle or motorized vehicle accident can also cause an ACL injury. However, most ACL injuries occur while not such contact.
